Ok, so I know many people saw the Jesus > Religion video going around Facebook and YouTube.
I did post that video on my wall thinking it was a really cool video, making good points. But then I realized, with the help from others, that the way I was looking at the video and taking in the information was as if it was Jesus compared to false religion.
I think many other people see it that way as well, but others see it simply as it was: Jesus hates religion.
I made the accident by taking what I heard at a glance and agreeing with the video [as a whole] but not really paying attention to what it was really stating.
I think that there really are a lot of good points within the video, but only as we take it to mean false religion.
Jesus does detest hypocrisy, and when religion is 'abused' with acts of hypocrisy, religion, or rather false religion, becomes useless.
When Jeff [the guy in the video] says "Religion says do. Jesus says done," I do agree with that. BUT, in a way that means this battle for salvation is done. We don't have to keep sacrificing the lamb to receive the gift that Christ gave His Son's life for. That is how I take that statement.
They say that religion is something that has the ability to turn people away from a relationship with Christ. That may be true, but I think that's where the false religion comes in.
If people claim to be one with Christ, but do things that oppose the message of the Bible, how are we supposed to agree with the religion of Christianity? It makes it so hard to believe that the Church and Christianity is a good thing when we witness people doing the very opposite of what it stands for.
I have had many experiences with those types of instances.
I would see people proclaim Christ's name, but then do things that Christ would find appalling [so, naturally, I did as well].
HOWEVER, I think when we start to point out instances of hypocrisy, we fall victim to it as well.
We judge, and judge, and judge.
Doesn't the Bible say not to judge?
James 4:12
There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you--who are you to judge your neighbor?
I think when we start pointing out the hypocrisy in other peoples' lives, we need to reevaluate ourselves. That isn't to say we aren't supposed to ignore that what they are doing is wrong. We need to realize that we are called to pray for them and be there to help and support them in a positive way, but we are not called to judge them.
Religion is not a bad thing. In fact, religion is the base of Christianity, in which a relationship with Christ is formed.
False religion, or hypocrisy, is something to be worried about.
I hope that you all are able to see what I am trying to convey [I know it's pretty scatterbrained, but I'm pretty scatterbrained at the moment. haha]
Also, if anyone has anything to say in regards to this or their view on the subject, I am more than willing to listen because I would love to hear other opinions. I think it's very important hearing different sides because hopefully it will help me [and you as well!] grow in Christ.
